We are located at 11 Aorangi Crescent, Lake Tekapo just a 3 minute walk from the Lake Tekapo lakefront, the InterCity bus stop and 10 minutes walk from the Church of the Good Shepherd . Click here for full directions.
Yes! There are 8 spaces onsite and unlimited free parking on the street around the hostel. Lake Tekapo village is very small and you will always be able to find a parking space.
Yes, we have a large, fully equipped communal kitchen available for all guests to cook their own meals.
Our kitchen includes:
Full-size ovens and stovetops
Microwaves and toasters
Communal fridges and freezer to store your groceries
All necessary pots, pans, plates, and utensils
Just bring your own ingredients (the local Four Square supermarket is just a short walk away!) and we provide the equipment.
Yes, UNLIMITED FREE WIFI, FOR EVERYONE, EVERYDAY.
Even though Lake Tekapo only has about 369 residents, we do have access to reasonably fast (VDSL) WiFi, which is available in all rooms.
Yes, it is just over 1 hours drive to Mt Cook. You can comfortably do a day trip by car. There is also a bus service which offers a day return ticket. You can purchase these from reception. You will need to book a bus ticket the day before departure or earlier.
All of Lake Tekapo is located in a designated UNESCO Dark Sky Reserve, making it one of the best places in the world for stargazing. You can see the stars right from our hostel gardens, or take a short walk to the lakefront!
Yes, we have a secure lock up and also a small range of tools for tuning your bike.
No you don't need to bring any bedding or towels. All our beds are made up with hotel quality sheets. Due to the unhygenic nature of sleeping bags, we do not allow them in rooms and must be stored at reception.
Your room will be ready for you by 2pm. If you are arriving earlier, you can store your luggage and use our lounge & gardens from 10am.
Check out is 10am. If you have to wait for your bus, you are welcome to use our lounge while you wait.
If you have friends or family coming to visit you at the, you must inform staff and they must register at reception. A charge can apply so check with us first!
Yes, all rooms have electric heaters, including the common areas. There are also hot water bottles in the rooms and extra blankets are available should you need one.
The lounge has a log fire which is extra cosy in the winter.
No, our facilities are suited to the number of guests we accommodate and are there for their exclusive use.
Yes, we do have some pet friendly rooms. You will need to contact us prior to booking to check if we still have a suitable room available.
We require all pets so be on a lead while on the property as we have small animals running about the property.
Pets are not to be left unattended in the room.
There is no extra charge for pets unless there is hair or mess that requires extra cleaning.
There is a BNZ ATM machine in town.
Yes, there is a Foursquare Supermarket open 8am - 8pm.
Yes, there is one and you can buy petrol or diesel 24 hours a day (At night, there is only self service and credit or debit card payment)
Yes, we are happy to host families. We have a travel cot available at reception. Children under 18 can not stay in a shared room unless it has been booked for the exclusive use by that group. Some rooms can accommodate an extra mattress, if you would like to add an extra mattress to a room for a child or extra guest, please contact us prior to booking.
Yes. The cheapest way to book is directly through our website. When you book a self-service reservation on www.tekapohostelnz.com, we waive all credit card fees (which are normally 2% via phone or in-person). Booking direct always guarantees our best available rates compared to online travel agencies.
Booking direct with your accommodation provider will almost always be better value for you than using an online booking website!
